Budgeting for the Institute
Scholars are expected to participate in a 5-month online course and attend the face-to-face meeting of their cohort and should budget accordingly. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from their disciplinary departments, teaching and learning centers, professional societies, and other agencies.
Once accepted into the program, prospective Scholars will be required to pay the Institute registration fee to confirm their participation; this will cover all program materials and a reception. Applicants who are not members of the American Society for Microbiology are encouraged to join in order to receive a discount on the Institute registration fee.
ASM member registration fee: $549.00
Nonmember registration fee: $599.00
Participants must budget and arrange their own airfare, hotel reservations, and any other transportation to attend the Institute at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel & Conference Center, in North Bethesda, MD. Participants can expect to spend about $129 (before taxes) per night/per person for the hotel. A block of rooms will be reserved for attendees for three nights at the hotel where the Institute is taking place. Participants planning to attend the ASM Conference for Undergraduate Educators (ASMCUE) immediately following the Institute will receive a discount on their ASMCUE registration fee.
The deadline for canceling participation in the program and requesting a registration refund is May 30th. A refund minus a $100 processing fee will be issued for all cancellations received by the May 30th immediately preceding the Institute. No refunds will be granted after that date. All cancellations must be received in writing to the address below:
